Less than two weeks ago we reported that Newcastle-based station, Metro Radio, had beaten expectations of raising £1 Million worth of work in just 24 hours. Well, they have topped it.

In just two weeks, Metro Radio have managed to highlight £20 Million  of job vacancies to job seekers in the Newcastle area. The campaign, which launched on January 23rd, aims to lower the North East’s unemployment rates which are currently the highest in the UK.

Across the region, thousands of jobs have been advertised on the station and on its website. During the campaigns promotion it followed one unemployed listener through the struggle of finding a job. Rachel has been unemployed for more than two years and it was not until her story was heard by local business woman, Cath Fullerton, that she was offered an interview.

Rachel spoke of her love of the campaign: “It was a fantastic opportunity and I am so thankful. I’m looking forward to the interview, fingers crossed I get it!”

Having continuously backed the campaign, Sir Richard Branson said to Metro Radio: “It’s a great idea and you’ve got my 100% endorsement.”
