Raphaella #2: Tino’s ‘One To Watch’
Raphaella has supported the likes of Rizzle Kicks, Bluey Robinson, Clement Marfo & The Frontline and Murray James, and is currently working with major producers, writers and publishing companies, writing new material and is ever evolving as the gifted young artist that she is.
I went along to the Distillers in Hammersmith – where Wavelengths live music nights in partnership with the American Society of Composers, Authors and Publishers are occasionally held. The line-up comprised of Daniel Gouck, Raphaella, Lydia Bayliss and Art Magic. Each of the four acts performed three original songs. With our trusted Cameraman, Glenn, we managed to record the event and get an exclusive interview with Raphaella backstage.
When we arrived we were ushered straight upstairs to the Regal Rooms, which was abuzz with light conversation from a young and eclectic looking crowd. Smooth music boomed from the DJ in the far corner of the room. Although an intimate venue, it was packed to full capacity. The stage was set, ready for the first act, Glenn and I placed ourselves directly at the front of the room, so we got the best view possible and watched as the compere introduced each act and we were treated to four musical delights.
Raphaella was second to perform. Again, I was impressed at her musicianship – she played the keyboard and sang for all three of her songs. Her flawless performances proved why she won an award for the most outstanding BMus(Hons) student, studying at the Institute of Contemporary Music Performance and graduated with a 1st class honours in Music. The gifted 21 year-old takes her art form and writing seriously with a passion that shines through whether she’s performing or talking about her music. She is pitch -perfect, and has powerful vocals that she nails with conviction and has her audience captivated.
I caught up with Raphaella at the end of the night to see what she’s been up to. Keep your ears to the ground as this young lady definitely has more in store for us…
