Ofcom are calling for a cap on on the BT Group charges for Internet Service Providers and others using their lines.

The proposals, which have been submitted to the European Commission, suggest a £2.78 price slash per line. At present, the cost Broadband fee is £14.70, if approved, this could be lowered to £11.92 from as soon as April.

BT group seemed less than impressed at the plans, with a spokesman giving this quote to BBC News:

“We disagree with some of the underlying assumptions that they have used to determine these charge controls.

“Our primary concern throughout this process is to ensure that we are able to achieve a fair rate of return in order to continue our investment in the future of the UK’s communications infrastructure.

“We will consider all options available to us, including appealing, after Ofcom confirms its final decisions.”
