BBC Radio 1′s Big Weekend heads to Derry for 2013

Following a massive Hackney Weekend as part of the Olympic celebrations in 2012, ′s is back for 2013 and this year, it’s in Derry.

The nation-wide station’s biggest event takes place in May and will be home to tens of thousands of people across the weekend.

Artists to take to the stages in the past have included the likes of Ellie Goulding, Rihanna, Lady GaGa, Black Eyed Peas, Example, Calvin Harris and many, many more big name stars.

At 7.16 this morning, Grimmy was still being all secretive as he woke up the nation but a clue was made public as the Breakfast Show team posted the photo to the right on Twitter.

This year’s is bigger than ever. Yes, they do say that every year but this time, they mean. Not only will the event take place on the Saturday and Sunday of a summer weekend but there’s now an entire extra day of live music at ′s this year as the party will begin on a Friday and carry on right through until the weekend is over late Sunday evening.

So if you are reading this and thinking “I need to get to Derry right now to get some tickets!” don’t bother, tickets aren’t available just yet but, as per usual, all tickets are completely free event. The UK’s biggest free-ticketed event just got even bigger.

But, if you are about to pen your weekends off at work, 24th – 26th are the three days you will want to take off as that’s when the whole thing takes place. It’s only 113 days away!

Ebrington Square hosts 3 days of the brightest names in music at ′s 2013 – as soon as we hear any of the names performing at the weekend, we will let you know!

    Morning all! Thanks for your comments, glad to see so many people excited for Radio 1′s Big Weekend this year! As of yet there has been no announcement as to when tickets will be available or how the process will work. Once we know, we will be sure to let you know :)
