BBC Radio 1′s Big Weekend heads to Derry for 2013
Following a massive Hackney Weekend as part of the Olympic celebrations in 2012, BBC Radio 1′s Big Weekend is back for 2013 and this year, it’s in Derry.
The nation-wide station’s biggest event takes place in May and will be home to tens of thousands of people across the weekend.
Nick Grimshaw was live from Derry this morning to make the big announcement alongside some of Derry’s finest who joined him in their outside studio.
This year’s Big Weekend is bigger than ever. Yes, they do say that every year but this time, they mean. Not only will the event take place on the Saturday and Sunday of a summer weekend but there’s now an entire extra day of live music at BBC Radio 1′s Big Weekend this year as the party will begin on a Friday and carry on right through until the weekend is over late Sunday evening.
So if you are reading this and thinking “I need to get to Derry right now to get some tickets!” don’t bother, tickets aren’t available just yet but, as per usual, all tickets are completely free event. The UK’s biggest free-ticketed event just got even bigger.
But, if you are about to pen your weekends off at work, 24th – 26th are the three days you will want to take off as that’s when the whole thing takes place. It’s only 113 days away!
