Mandy Montanez and Alastair Postlethwaite’s time on the BBC’s latest dance show So You Think You Can Dance, got cut short tonight as it was announced that they would be leaving the show and wouldn’t progress to next weeks final. Luckily for Charlie, Tommy, Lizzie and Robbie, they impressed the judges and the viewers and earned themselves a spot in the final to win the chance to dance in Hollywood, £100,000 and the title of ‘Britain’s favourite dancer’! Here are some of the judges comments…
Main Show
For the first time in the series there were two couples dances, the solos and a group dance.
Starting off would be Lizzie and Robbie with their Broadway routine. After they had finished, Arlene said that she thought they ‘delivered on every level’ and deserved a place in next weeks final. Louise and Sisco felt the same as Arlene, Louise said that it was outstanding, and Sisco said that he was speechless! Later in the show, Lizzie and Robbie would dance their hip-hop routine. Nigel said that they carried off the performance well but it was not his favourite. Birthday boy Sisco said that Robbie went from zero to hero in the hip-hop world and that in his opinion Lizzie was the front runner for the girls.
Mandy and Alastair were the second pairing of the week, they both danced a contemporary routine and a pasodoble. Starting with the contemporary; Arlene was blown away, as was Sisco. Sisco said that the routine was ‘amazing’ and that the pair have the best chemistry out of all the couples. Nigel seemed impressed and said that Mandy was ‘phenomenal’ but Alastair was just ‘good’. Following on from that, later in the show the pair danced a pasodoble and the judges all seemed a bit disappointed. Nigel said that he didn’t live or feel the dance, he also said that Mandy had as much passion as a cloak, ouch. Louise said that the pair didn’t grasp the music and Arlene was just, well… disappointed.
The third and final couple this week were Tommy and Charlie. Their first routine was jazz/hip-hop and it divided the judges opinions. Sisco commented on the amazing chemistry between them, while Arlene picked up on the fact that Charlie couldn’t keep in time with the music. Louise added that she wanted to see an explosion, but didn’t. The pairs second routine was the quickstep and it received great feedback from all four judges. Nigel said that it was terrific and 100% entertaining, Arlene told them that they were awesome(!!), Louise said that it was fun, entertaining and light-hearted, and Sisco admitted that he was worried but they blew him away!
Results
After a quick break for In It To Win It and the National Lottery draws, we were back with Cat Deeley who was ready to announce the results. The two dancers with the most public votes and going straight through to the final were… Charlie and Tommy! This meant that Mandy, Lizzie, Alastair and Robbie were in the bottom four and would each dance a 30-second solo to impress the judges. Following the solos and a performance from Leona Lewis, the judges told Mandy and Alastair that they were not going through to the final, and that Lizzie and Robbie were!
That means that the four dancers going through to next weeks grand final are Charlie, Tommy, Lizzie and Robbie! Each of them will battle it out for the chance to dance in Hollywood, receive £100,000 and become ‘Britain’s favourite dancer’. Also performing next week in the results show will be Robbie Williams! The So You Think You Can Dance final kicks off live, next Saturday from 7pm on BBC One!
